Around the House
You probably really don't want to hear about how wonderful it is to have a cleaning lady, but I have to say it just once -- this is the BEST THING EVER! Just had to get that out there. The peace of mind that comes from knowing the house will get clean right now, and I don't have to do it, is just so freeing and amazing. It's especially been helpful with me being sick. Love it.
Of course now I am mentally making a list of some things that need to be done around here since I should have a little extra time. I need to get that list on paper and start working on it.
From the Kitchen
This is another big, and so far positive, change. I subscribed to Super Healthy Meal Plans to see if we would like it. Then I made lists for a month and went to the commissary. I was able to get all of our groceries for the month for a great price, minus some weekly produce and a few items they didn't stock. The good news is, the meals and snacks are all healthy and easy to make. I can't wait to see how this works out for us in the long run. I am hoping to make an impact on our budget and our diet. Will keep you posted.
Homeschooling
Ummm... Well we were supposed to start today. Then I was sick the past few days (my flu morphed into chest congestion) and I was slow getting the last minute things (mostly the celebratory first day items) pulled together. So when a friend emailed last night and asked if we wanted to go swim today instead, I made a last-minute administrative decision and postponed Day 1 until tomorrow. And I decided we are going to start with just the 3Rs this week and add the extras next week. They might not need a slow start, but I do.
On the Blog
A new look! Do you like it? I have a few more things I want to do to the sidebar, but it is good for now.
Fitness
This is a new category here. Not much to report right now as I am not going to start exercising for another couple of weeks. I need to finish recovering, and I know it's not going to happen while the Olympics are keeping me up late. I do have a copy of 30 Day Shred ready to go. I have also lost a couple of pounds using My Fitness Pal, but I have another 13 at least to go. Pants weather is coming, and I need to be able to fit into mine.
Plans and Schemes
Not much out of the ordinary going on. Mostly I am ready, ready, ready to get ourselves into a routine. The Olympics are messing me up, because I am staying up late -- it's a love/hate relationship. Oh, and potty training. We are trying to rid ourselves of diapers for the first time in over seven years. He is doing pretty well with it.
Reading
Well, Saving CeeCee Honeycutt did grab me. I would have finished it if not for the Olympics. I am almost done, and it has to be back to the library this evening. More thoughts after I finish it. Not sure what I am reading next...
Saying Yes
The kids keep asking to go to one of the build-your-own yogurt sundae places. I think that would be a great way to end the first week of school -- don't you?
A Memory
This is a horrible picture, but I love this band. The band does come play at your house, right?
I am off to get a shower while naps are going on. This evening the big kids have gymnastics, so Thomas and I are going to run to the library alone. I hope to duck into the grown-up section and nab a new book. Have a good Monday!
More almanacs at Suscipio.

Jumped over from Suscipio. Nice to meet you and read your almanac! Your blog looks great and I will be back since I homeschool my youngest.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
So glad you are here Theresa and thank you!
DeleteCan I book that band for our next party? ;)
ReplyDeleteYou know you can. And they play for cupcakes.
DeleteHi Pam, it's so nice to "meet" you through your Monday Musing. First, I hate summer colds. Don't they seem to be worse in the summer when you're already hot and bothered? You're band picture is great! And beware of the make your own yogurt cups...I think my 6 year old ate her weight the first time I ever took her! {Not literally, but close I'm sure.}
ReplyDeleteThanks for the warning, Jenny. I bet mine could do the same. I am not fond of the pay by the pound method.
DeleteLove the polkadots...so cute! :)
ReplyDeleteI read CeeCee last year--won't say anything though since you're not done with it. :)
Ok, you can tell me what you thought of it now. I thought it was pleasant, but nothing earth-shattering. Thanks!
DeleteHi! It's so nice to meet you! Yogurt is certainly an auspicious way to end the first week of school!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by. Nice to meet you too!
DeleteLast year we went to a build-your-own-frozen-yogurt place for our first day celebration. I had forgotten till you reminded me. I think we'll do it again- make it a tradition!
ReplyDeleteLet's see, what should you read next....? The Language of Flowers is awesome. Or do you want something lighter? I'm reading Joy in the Ordinary right now which was .99 for my Nook and I'm enjoying it quite a lot. Of course, I am the LAST person who should be telling you what to read, lol.
I really love the new blog look. It's making me want to add color to my background. yes, that is what it's doing. The colors you chose are perfect.
